This year, I’m being asked to design kitchens with personality because you don’t want a ‘show home’ kitchen that looks the same as everyone else. Your kitchen needs to be practical, organised and functional, but you’re also wanting it to have character, personality and style.
I was asked, by a property developer, to design a kitchen for his new 3 bed townhouse. He was used to renovating properties with modern kitchens for his rental homes but, for his own home, my client wanted a kitchen that was something different. It had to look individual and reflect his personality.
My client loved rock music and used to play in a band, so this had to be a ROCK STAR KITCHEN. He even taught me some drumming skills! That was such a fun day and I didn’t realise how much co-ordination you need to play the drums.
The previous kitchens he’d created had been ideal for a rental market as they were practical, light, neutral and sleek.
He liked the layout of the kitchen, but wanted a blast of personality for his own kitchen to make it look completely different and unique. Here’s the new design layout where I reconfigured a few units and, because he’s a tall guy, I also increased the height of the wall units.
As the worktop is the main feature, I took him to my stone showroom where he absolutely loved this dark quartz stone with a bold splash of colour.
It’s was a brave choice and something that you have to absolutely love because it’s an expensive decision to get wrong. It worked beautifully in my modern kitchen design, and was the perfect complement to showcase his individuality and rock personality.
To balance the heaviness of the dark worktop, I paired it with pure white, sleek units and soft grey highlights in the wall paint and floor tiles.
The kitchen is the space where everyone congregates. It’s personal and a talking point. I particularly love the bar area that looks super symmetrical and stylish.
It’s the perfect space for entertaining friends, chilling with the guys and rocking with band members. Remember… what happens in kitchens stays in kitchens 😉
This kitchen is unique to him, with integrated appliances and tall units to suit his height, plenty of worktop space that’s a great spot for friends to congregate, practical storage to hide away the clutter and of course an amazing worktop that’s a gorgeous feature and talking point. It’s definitely Rock Star Style.
If you’re unsure how to add your personality into your home, particularly for those more expensive rooms like your kitchen and bathroom, and you don’t want to make an expensive mistake, then just get in touch because I’m always here to help and guide you.
